Families Invited to Attend Day of Cultural Legacy: Detroit

Al Holmes Academy families are invited to join a meaningful, family-friendly cultural experience as Color of Change hosts Day of Cultural Legacy: Detroit on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 315 E. Warren Ave., Detroit, MI 48201.

This special event is part of a national initiative designed to connect Black students and families to Black history through hands-on learning experiences inside Black museums and cultural spaces. The day centers on education, affirmation, and pride—giving children the opportunity to see themselves reflected in history while learning alongside their families.

At a time when access to Black history is increasingly limited in schools and communities across the country, Day of Cultural Legacy creates space for families to learn together, ask questions, and celebrate the stories, contributions, and resilience of Black communities. Organizers emphasize that Black history is U.S. history and an essential part of preparing young people to be informed, engaged citizens.

The Detroit event welcomes parents, caregivers, and students of all ages for a shared day of learning and cultural connection. Al Holmes Academy encourages families to take part in this opportunity to support their children’s understanding of history, identity, and community.

Families interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP using the QR code on the event flyer.
